UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Kansas and the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas will host a community baby shower for expectant moms and new parents on Sept. 30 at First Christian Church in Parsons.
The two organizations are planning the event to help mothers understand the resources and support available to them during their pregnancy. Additionally, moms to be can learn how to get the most from their health plan. The baby shower is part of a series of community events taking place throughout the state by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan to provide expectant moms and new parents with important prenatal and well-baby care resources and information.
The baby shower will include presentations about prenatal and baby care information. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in educational games and raffles. Healthy snacks and refreshments will be provided.
In addition to resources from the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas and UnitedHealthcare, parents will receive information about taking care of their babies from several speakers including Gail Barrett of Wade Barrett Memorial Fund, Lesley Johnson of Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas and Stephanie Henry of Neosho County Health Department.
Barrett, founder and director of the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund, will present information about baby’s safe sleep. Johnson, a dental hygienist at Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, will present information on the importance of good oral care during pregnancy, how mothers can avoid transmitting oral bacteria to their baby and how to care for a baby’s teeth.
