Scottish pirate hunter's fiancee fights for day of freedom for son's christening

THE fiancee of jailed pirate hunter Billy Irving is ­battling to have him freed for the day of their son’s christening.

Yvonne MacHugh has asked Indian authorities to release the 35-year-old for the ceremony which she plans to hold in Chennai.

The 27-year-old has the support of the Catholic Church, who have helped her apply for a court order to have the ex-Para temporarily freed from the notorious Puzhal Prison.

The Bishop for Argyll and the Isles, Brian McGee, made a request on the couple’s behalf to his counterpart in India.

Billy, of Connel, near Oban, is ­serving a five-year sentence for ­possessing illegal firearms. His ­supporters claim he is the victim of a miscarriage of justice.  Continue reading...
